Is It In Your Head, Or In Your Heart?
Is It In Your Head, Or In Your Heart?
By Pastor J.D. Link
Abundant Grace Fellowship,
Last week we went through just a few of the many verses in the Bible that talk about the power of our words, and how important it is to always speak God’s Word in every circumstance. There is something further, though, that we need to take a look at.
You see, the Bible tells us that a vital part of speaking God’s Word is believing it in your heart. Romans 10:9-10 says “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” This is essential. Anyone can speak God’s Word from their head by simply reading the Bible. The important thing is that you believe it in your heart, then speak it with your mouth. The Word of God will not profit you until you mix it with faith (Heb 4:2).
Now, don’t get me wrong. Speaking the Word of God from your head is better to do any day of the week than speaking a bunch of useless, discouraging, doubt filled word curses. When you’ll really see the power of God manifested, though, is when you truly believe the Word of God with every fiber of your being. You must truly believe it in your heart. In Mark 11:23, Jesus said not only should you speak to your mountain, but you must not doubt in your heart. You must believe, and only believe (Mk 5:36).
Why is only believing so important? Because unbelief counters (or works against) your faith. In Mark 9:24 the father of the demon possessed boy said “Lord, I believe, help my unbelief .” You can have faith and unbelief at the same time, and it’s like two identical monster trucks being chained rear to rear, and then both of them puttin’ the hammer down.
Proverbs 23:7 says as a man thinks in his heart, so is he. What you believe on the inside is what you really believe. You may fool people for awhile, but eventually what you really believe will come out in your speech (Mt 12:34) and in your actions (Lk 8:15, Mk 4:20, Mt 13:23). We must not let sense knowledge (what we feel, hear, see, taste, and smell) sit on the throne of our hearts where God’s Word has rightful place. Yes, I understand that we are in this world, but we are not of it! We must magnify the Word of God the way He does, even above His Name (Ps 138:2). Our sense knowledge will pass away, but His Word won’t! Our circumstances will change, but His Word won’t! We must understand that the things that are seen are temporary, but the things that are not seen are eternal (2 Cor 4:18). The Bible tells us to walk by faith, not by sight (2 Cor 5:7)! Praise God, let’s start walking by faith!
I pray that all of The Father’s children would start truly trusting His Word and believing it in their hearts. I pray all of us would grow up to be mighty men and women of faith, and have the reputation Abraham did: He believed God (Gen 15:6, Rom 4:3, Gal 3:6,7, Jam 2:23).
